The Tanbour is a long-necked lute that is closely connected with the traditional music of Iran. Only in recent years have new compositions for this instrument begun to emerge. The concert program at Syker Vorwerk presents several of these works by composers from Iran and Germany, placing them alongside traditional Iranian Magams. This encounter traces the hidden potentials that foreign musical cultures may offer for the music of today.
The performer Mehdi Jalali is active as a composer, musician, and artistic director of the Yarava Music Group in Tehran, where he plays a key role in fostering contemporary music in Iran. For this concert, he is once again returning to Germany.
